We describe application of a novel refinement method for an accurate determination of the chemical diffusion coefficient, D, and the generalized kinetic parameter, A, from experimental potentiostatic intermittent titration technique (PITT) data suited for a variety of electrochemically doped electroactive polymers and inorganic intercalation host materials. The differential equations valid for technical heat exchangers can also describe the O2 exchange in the blood capillaries and the exchange of molecules like THO and acetamid in the renal tubules. Abstract A theoretical impedance function is proposed for the active/passive transition of nickel in an acid sulphate medium. It is considered that passivating species progressively covers the electrode surface. This approximated model predicts the appearance of negative time constants in the impedance spectra when coverage coefficient θ values for passive species are greater than 0.5.

This work is aimed at further elucidating the aggregation behaviour of micron- and submicron-size non-porous silicas and the column performance of 1–2-μm C18 silicas in reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography of low-molecular weight compounds. It is demonstrated that highly ordered, dense, porous aggregates of such silica beads were obtained by gravity settling and centrifugation. The slurry techniques applied at constant flow-rate and a pressure up to 50 MPa provided less-ordered aggregates, but generated an acceptable performance of columns when 1–2-μm C18 silica beads were employed. Nonlinear optical self diffraction effects for a light beam in a liquid crystalline polymer in its isotropic fluid state was observed. This effect is characterized by the absence of a threshold intensity, a diffraction pattern that does not depend on the polarization of the reading beam relative to that of the writing beam and which cannot be disturbed by transversally applied static electrical fields. This effect is attributed to a thermally induced spatial refractive index modulation. The time constants of the response are of the order of ms.
Adaptive feedback linearizing control of linear induction motor considering the end-effects

This paper proposes an input-output feedback linearization techniques for linear induction motors, taking into consideration the dynamic end-effects. As a main original content, this work proposes a new control law based on the on-line estimation of the induced-part time constant. The estimation law is obtained thanks to a Lyapunov based analysis and thus the stability of the entire control system, including the estimation algorithm, is intrinsically guaranteed. Moreover, with such an approach even the on-lihe variation of the induced-part time constant with the speed is retrieved, thus improving the behavior of previously developed approaches where such a variation vs. speed is considered …
Inhibition by Fendiline of the Transient Outward Current in Rat Ventricular Cardiomyocytes

The effects of fendiline on the transient outward current (Ito) were investigated in rat ventricular cardiomyocytes. Extracellularly applied fendiline reduced peak and steady-state current amplitude of Ito; the inactivation of Ito was accelerated by the drug, which reflects onset of block. The described effects were concentration dependent: half-maximal effects were achieved at approximately 3 microM fendiline. Intracellularly applied fendiline (3 microM) did not affect Ito within 5 min. The steady-state current amplitude of Ito was more efficiently suppressed by the drug at 22 +/- 1 degrees C than at 36 +/- 1 degrees C. On the nature of slow β-relaxation in supercooled liquids

We propose a model for reorientational motions of molecules associated with secondary beta-relaxation in supercooled liquids. The secondary relaxation is attributed to relaxation within a given local minimum, while the primary relaxation is attributed to transitions between distinct free-energy minima. We find that (i) at the temperature where the peak frequency of the extrapolated beta-relaxation intersects the alpha-relaxation, the actual and the extrapolated spectra differ in their time constants by approximately one decade; (ii) there is no clear division between the imaginary part of the dielectric susceptibility for the alpha- and the beta-relaxation for temperatures larger than 1.1 T…

The voltage dependence and the kinetics of block by verapamil of L-type calcium current (ICa) were investigated in ventricular myocytes from rat hearts using the whole-cell patch-clamp technique. ICa was elicited repetitively in response to depolarizing voltage pulses from -80 mV to 0 mV at different pulse intervals and durations. Verapamil reduced the magnitude of ICa in a frequency-dependent manner without tonic component. The time course of ICa remained unchanged suggesting that not open but inactivated channels were affected by the drug.
